The Cash App class action lawsuit settlement is a $15 million deal that resolved claims over a 2021 data breach and over unauthorized transactions on Cash App accounts. The case, Salinas v. Block, Inc., came from a federal court in California, and Block, which owns Cash App, denied any wrongdoing. The claim deadline passed on November 18, 2024, so the administrator no longer accepts new claims. According to the official settlement website, payments to approved claimants are being issued in October 2026. Here is what the lawsuit was about, who qualified, how much people can expect, and how this settlement differs from other Cash App cases.

What is the Cash App lawsuit about?
In April 2022, Block disclosed that a former employee had downloaded internal Cash App Investing reports in December 2021 after leaving the company. The reports included customer names, brokerage account numbers, and in some cases portfolio values and stock trading activity. Block said the incident affected about 8.2 million current and former customers.
As a result, users soon filed a proposed class action. The lawsuit claimed that Block failed to protect customer data. In addition, it alleged that Cash App did not properly handle unauthorized transfers and account errors, leaving some users without refunds. However, Block denied the claims, and no court ruled on whether they were true.
Who qualified for the settlement?
- Cash App users whose personal information was accessed in the December 2021 Cash App Investing incident
- Users who had unauthorized or fraudulent transactions on their Cash App account between August 23, 2018, and August 20, 2024
- Users who reported account errors during that period that Cash App did not resolve
How much is each payment?
There is no flat Cash App settlement payment. Instead, approved claimants receive money based on what they claimed:
- Out-of-pocket losses: Up to $2,500 for documented costs tied to the breach or unauthorized activity.
- Lost time: Up to three hours at $25 an hour, for a maximum of $75.
- Transaction losses: Reimbursement for unauthorized transactions that Cash App never refunded.
However, these amounts can be reduced or increased pro rata, depending on the money left after attorneys’ fees and costs. In fact, settlement trackers report that people filed more than 667,000 claims, but the administrator approved only about 40,000, largely because many claims lacked documentation.

When will Cash App class action settlement payments arrive?
According to the official Cash App settlement website, payments to approved claimants are scheduled for October 2026. Typically, payments go out by the method the claimant chose on the claim form, such as an electronic payment or a check. If you filed a claim and have questions, contact the settlement administrator through the official website, not Cash App support.
Be careful of scams. The administrator will not ask you to pay a fee to receive your money, and you should only use links from the official settlement website.
Other Cash App settlements and orders
Importantly, this class action is separate from government actions against Block. For example, in January 2025 the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau ordered Block to pay up to $175 million, including up to $120 million in redress to consumers and a $55 million penalty, over its handling of fraud on Cash App. Also in January 2025, state money transmission regulators announced an $80 million settlement with Block over anti-money-laundering compliance; the states received that money, not users.
Similarly, Cash App faced a separate class action over unwanted referral text messages in Washington state, which is a different case with its own settlement. For a similar payment-app case, see our Venmo class action lawsuit explainer.
Can you still file a Cash App settlement claim?
No. The claim deadline was November 18, 2024, and the administrator does not accept late claims. If you did not file, you cannot join this settlement now. However, if you still have unresolved unauthorized transactions, you can dispute them with Cash App and file a complaint with the CFPB or your state attorney general.
